MILLER HAS DEVELOPED an international reputation for his Fly-Cast Paintings of endangered rivers. Miller began his Endangered Rivers Project out of a deep passion for raising the awareness and importance of river preservation. Through projects across the United States, his work directs attention to threatened waterways and helps support river conservation through the sale of the paintings. Miller’s Endangered Rivers  Fly-Cast Paintings, like the rivers themselves, are complex layers of color and transparency.

Projects in 2026 include painting the Gila River on behalf of the Gila River Indian Tribe, and the Chicago River on behalf of Friends of the Chicago River. Miller welcomes any projects that can help the cause of river conservation.

The Endangered River Project has been fortunate to have the acclaimed cameraman Jon Dodson filming Ben Miller. Jon’s camerawork includes working with James Cameron filming Titanic, and wilderness projects for the series Mountain Men

Jon shot the footage for Manabu Inada’s poetic presentation of Miller in the short film Rhythms of the River.

“Ben’s method is the perfect metaphor for river protection—our rivers are at risk of death by a thousand cuts, yet if we all come together to do our part now, however small, the recovery will beautifully take shape.”

Wade Fellin, Save Wild Trout

“We are pleased to have Ben Miller here in Jersey City for a four-day residency. Bringing Ben into these spaces on the Hackensack and Hudson Rivers [allows] a dialogue to be created about the need of the preservation of rivers throughout America.”

Kele McComsey Director, MANA Contemporary, NJ

“It is impossible to hang on to the established misconceptions about the once workhorse Chicago-Calumet River system when you really stop and look. That is one of the reasons why Ben’s paintings are so compelling and important. His work focuses the mind and captures the magic.”

Margaret Frisbie, Executive Director, Friends of the Chicago River
